PROCESSING, REDUCING AND PUNCHING FINE WOOD

Seltertech offers round lathes with diameters ranging from 2.5 to 12 mm at their tips and with a reducer for processing fine wood. The length of the lathe must be between 40 and 150 mm. The partially reduced length depends on the diameter of the lathe. The thicker it is, the longer the reduction may be. For example: a mean staff diameter of 6 mm may have a reduction length of circa 12 mm with a reduction diameter of 5 mm.

Diameter Tolerance and Humidity

When processing wood and bamboo, seltertech can attain diameter tolerances of + – 0.05 mm. These tolerances are valid for the period directly after processing. The diameter of the wood can change considerably due to its swelling or shrinking during slight variances in humidity. Since reducing the lathes is generally used to assemble a metal part or pipe to a staff, it is advisable to carry out the attachment immediately after cranking.

For processing fine wood, the rule of thumb is the finer the wood fibre, the better the result from processing.

ESSENTIALS OF PROCESSING FINE WOOD

PROCEDURE

Processing fine wood at seltertech is done using a machine cutting process. The diameter of the staff is altered to a defined length. In processing fine wood, we have a fully automated lathe with automatic part feeding and a semi-automatic machine available. We can also process very thin diameters using a grinding machine.

ADVANTAGES

By cranking (reducing) the diameter, tubular metal parts can be assembled to the wooden staff. The metal part is assembled onto the mount of the same diameter without making any indentation to the plank.

Fastening the metal parts with our puncher enables a permanent joining without the use of adhesives or glues. The attachment is done very quickly and immediately; there is no untidiness from glue residue or exposure to solvents.
